Culture of Belonging

From the very first day of school, our Camp System instills in students a strong sense of belonging. The excitement begins as students are sorted into their Camps – a moment of joy and anticipation! This special grouping helps students immediately connect with peers from different grade levels, creating a supportive network where everyone feels seen and valued. Throughout the year, students will earn points for their individual achievements and contributions to their Camp, fostering a spirit of teamwork and collective accomplishment. We believe that genuine achievement is often born from feeling good about oneself and one's community, and our Camps are designed to nurture this sense of well-being in every child.

 

School-Wide Community

The Givens ES Camp System is a unique and creative cross-age grouping approach that builds a strong, positive school community. Our students are split into Camps that encourage interaction between older and younger peers. This means more opportunities for mentorship, shared learning, and a broader sense of school family. Older students can support younger ones, offering guidance and encouragement, while younger students bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm. Every adult in our school will also be part of a Camp, further strengthening these bonds and demonstrating the importance of teamwork and community. It's a fantastic way to connect with students across grade levels and build lasting friendships!

 

Character Building

Our Camp System is a powerful tool for building character. As students earn points for their Camp, they learn the value of their Camp's core trait and other positive behaviors, such as hard work, kindness, and collaboration. We believe that intrinsically motivated children are more likely to achieve their full potential. The Camp System encourages students to strive for excellence, not just for personal gain, but for the success of their Camp and the pride of their peers. It's about celebrating effort, demonstrating good choices, and understanding that every individual contribution makes a difference to the whole!
